Bronx, NY - Congratulations to the James J. Peters VA Medical Center and its Facility Management staff on winning the VA's prestigious Sustainability Achievement Award for Energy Efficiency.

Each year, VA's Green Management Program recognizes facilities across the country for projects designed to reduce energy use and to support "Green" initiatives, such as recycling, water efficiency and pollution prevention. This year, the JJP was recognized for their efforts to implement the Steam Trap Project which identified and replaced all defective and failed steam traps. A failed steam trap can cause inadequate and inefficient heating, causing both discomfort and added expense. The key to the project was the installation of a new steam trap monitoring system. This system will alert maintenance staff of steam trap failures in real time, reducing failure rates from 57% to 1%, with an estimated energy savings of $101,870, per year, at the same time, bringing more fuel efficient comfort, to both patients and staff.

"We're proud of the progress we've made in implementing earth-friendly, energy saving programs," said Vincent Immiti, Associate Director. "From energy saving light sensors, to recycling programs, to the installation of energy efficient bulbs, we will continue to strive to reduce our carbon footprint, and increase our "green" initiatives."

Kudos to our Facility Management staff and our Energy Engineer for this noteworthy achievement. Thanks for your continuing efforts to make us more efficient, and earth-friendly, in all that we do.
