The Community Support Services Program(CSS) covers many programs including Homeless Veteran Services.

Our Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) program serves Veterans who are homeless and have a medical, mental health or substance use disorder.  This program provides outreach, crisis intervention, case management services as well as housing and vocational services.  A transitional residence for Veterans will open in the near future with hopes of promoting a clean and sober family like living environment for Veterans who formerly resided in city shelters.

Our new HUD – VASH Program is a partnership between the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  The program was established to move Veterans and their families out of homelessness and into supported housing through HUD Section 8 “Housing Choice” rental assistance vouchers and intensive case management services provided by the VA.  The goal of the program is to end homelessness of the hardest- to- serve Veterans often living with a disability, mental illness or substance use disorders.

Our Grant and Per Diem program, an essential and critical part of the VHA, is vital for providing safe transitional housing and supportive services for homeless Veterans.  Community-based programs funded under Grant and Per Diem provide such services.  The VA Liaison provides oversight of the program, the Veterans care and case management to all participants.

Homeless Veterans are encouraged to participate in our Compensated Work Therapy Program (CWT).  This supported employment program allows Veterans to earn approximately $1000.00 per month in full-time work experience, generally on the campus of one of the network sites.  Many of these Veterans live in shelters and may have only one month of documented sobriety.  Group therapy and case management are provided to assist these Veterans as they prepare to return to community employment.  Veterans participate in the program for an average of four to five months.  Homeless Veterans with little sobriety and stability are fully integrated in the Mental Health Patient Care Center on site.  Treatment for PTSD, substance abuse and other mental health problems as well as physical problems are available on site.  The CWT program also offers supported employment assistance for Veterans with a serious mental illness who desires to work.  Also, supported employment assistance is available for Veterans with a traumatic brain injury.

The CSS program is fully accredited by CARF, the Rehabilitation Accreditation Agency.
